AD Plant

Anaerobic Digestion is a natural process where plant materials are broken down by micro-organisms in the absence of air to produce electricity.

About Littlefield AD Plant

The Littlefield Farm AD plant was built in 2013 after hearing about the wide spread use and success in Germany. We grow 12,000 tons of maize and feed this into a silo full of bacteria. The bacteria then eats the maize, which makes it fart (producing methane). The methane is pumped into an engine where it is converted into electricity and fed into the national grid.

It is a very efficient and popular source of renewable energy as it is so consistent therefore popular with electricity companies.

The digestive that is produced is very rich in nitrogen and can be spread with great effect on the land instead of fertiliser. It is not labour intensive and if run correctly has a very good
gross margin both from a farming perspective and from the production of electricity.
